BRYAN BATTERS DOYLE

Selson Common: The REC granted World Champion Bryan one title defense of his choosing and he made it a soft one. The champ issued a call to former Irish title holder Jack Doyle whose career is all but over. Doyle began to run in the opening frame but Big Ben followed and hammered away at the Irishman with alarming frequency. Poor Jack went down in the second, again in the third and twice more in the fourth before being counted out and ingloriously carried from the field. The victory marked the third defense for Bryan and the first against a foe other than John Jackson.

Other Doings:

The London prize ring has been unkind to its first American born combatant. Bill Richmond tasted defeat in two of his first three matches since arriving on English soil. It should be however noted that the Yankee demonstrates great ability and grit. With a bit of seasoning he may turn into fighter yet.
