TITLE DECLARATIONS

Glasgow, Scotland: With Big Ben Bryan and Gentleman John still atop the rankings, the Royal Explorers Club has again mandated a fight between the two for Bryan to keep his title. The winner will be required to face at least one other opponent of his own choosing in 1799.  World Middleweight champion Tinman Hooper will need to at least face Spaniard Harris to maintain his title.

Gallery of the Gallant Balloting

Daniel Mendoza was listed on 94.12 percent of the Gallery ballots cast in 1798. His run from 1784 to 1792 as English Heavyweight champion may not be matched for some time. He will be best remembered for his epic battles with Tom Johnson in 1783 and 1784 where he won three.

1798 Heavyweight Rankings

No movement in or out was noted for year although a good deal of jockeying took place at the lower reaches. Look for current English champ Jack Bartholomew to work his way onto the list in the year to come.
