Young Barty Makes Good

Jack Bartholomew, who took the English honors late last year from George The Brewer has had quite a year. Following a relatively simple decision over Big Ben Brain in April, the youngster was challenged by down and out Gentleman John Jackson who wanted his old laurels back having failed against Ben Bryan in April. The two met at Mile End on the fifteenth of September with a surprisingly small crowd on hand. Bartholomew put on a splendid scientific display as he stayed away from Jackson's big right hand and artfully jabbed his way to a sure victory. While the referee declared the matter a draw at seven rounds apiece with one even, it was evident to all that Bartholomew should have won by a wide margin. Nonetheless, Barty maintains his title and Jackson's woes deepen.
