WHALEBONE CLAIMS ST. LEGER

Doncaster: The tight race for the inaugural Explorers Cup continued as American bred Duroc and Whalebone dueled once more at the St. Leger Stakes.  Wellesley Arabian broke to the early but was overtaken by Waxy as the field reached the one mile post. Whalebone made an uncharacteristic early move from seventh to second with his unshakable foe Duroc only a step off his pace.  The pair charged by Waxy at the ten furlong pole with Duroc taking the lead by the twelfth.

The rivals gave their all in a side-by-side battle over the final two furlongs with Whalebone pulling ahead by a half length at the finish to notch his third win in five starts.
