BALDWIN REMAINS PERFECT

Wargrave, England: Lightweight Caleb Baldwin was successful in the first defense of his English title. Challenger Arthur Smith showed courage early on as he traded blows with Baldwin but was on the retreat by the fifth. Baldwin stalked his man for several rounds catching and flooring him once in the seventh. A quick hook followed by a combination laid Smith low for good in the ninth frame.  Baldwin sports an unblemished record of eight wins with two by knock out.

OTHER DOINGS:

Jem Belcher lost his World Middleweight belt to American Bill Richmond in a dreadfully boring affair at Jefferson Close. The two men circled endlessly but Richmond's hit-and-get-away style carried the day eight rounds to five with two even. At the very least, talk of Baldwin running out of opponents and taking on the big lads has come to an end.
